souvenir of the city

Within my scholarship for the summer academy in Salzburg I participated in the course „A ring is not just a thing“ with Jewellery artist Lucy Sarneel. The focus of this course was the interaction with the city and the reflection of the processes within Salzburg under the title „Souvenir of the city“.I was especially interested in the traces of decay and deviation from normal materials which I incorporated in the idea of my home town Salzburg which is a seemingly perfect historic city with many rich people especially tourists enjoying the cultural life. For the normal people which are living in this city it can be sometimes irritating how different the lives of the many visitors and themselves can be in Salzburg and if you look closely you can even find traces of decay behind the facade and also see the areas which aren’t as perfect as expected. For my collection of jewellery I looked for traces on materials I could use incorporating the idea of a not so perfect souvenir piece, something that is interesting but represents more than the surface of the city.I chose different materials but concentrated especially on copper and wood which have a rural character to them.

Within a university course I visited, I was challenged to concern myself with an object in a certain amount of time. Therefore each time I focused on certain details more than others and minimalistic drawings have been made. For a time there have been taxidermied birds and other times electronic junk, to draw.

In my work I want to express the feeling and the meaning of Atopy, which is, at the same time, placelessness in philosophy and hypersensibility of the body in medicine. Coming to another place to live sets your body in another state. Your familiar surrounding is often defining how you behave, how you look and how you think. In an unknown environment, a new side of your personality could come to life. The body is an indicator for the outside world, their first boundary point with your personality but it is also your protection shield, your steady place within the placenessness.
This work gives me the opportunity to explore my body through different weaving experiments. I was particularly interested in the transformation of threedimensional body shapes into a twodimensional form and other unexpected woven bodies and textures. The flexible weavings are dealing with the fragility and the changes of a human body, my body. l was looking for new ways to view this strange relationship one has with his body by seeing it through his own fatious view. I wanted to concentrate on the emotional value of the corpus, as a space within and especial without an environment, leading to the creation of my own body landscapes
